2D

2D is a startup with a vision to make the wonder-material graphene affordable and easily accessible to everyone. Their unique technology and product offering significantly lowers the technical, cost, and scale barriers to working with graphene, catalyzing widespread adoption across industries. In doing so, they are building a materials platform that will drive the next technological disruptions in carbon capture, water purification, renewable energy, health and electronics. 2D is passionate about harnessing the power of nanotechnology to solve some of the world's biggest problems, and is committed to play its part in building a stronger, better and greener tomorrow.

Why it Matters

Researchers have extensively explored the potential of graphene within lab settings, investigating its capacity to fuel disruptive technologies. Recent pushes to transition graphene from the lab to commercial markets highlight its climate potential, particularly in graphene solar cells and graphene carbon capture. Approximately 20% of global CO₂ emissions stem from industrial sources such as chemical, cement, and steel production, making carbon capture a powerful technology for emission mitigation. Graphene carbon capture membranes show potential to be a modular and cost-efficient system, improving scalability of carbon capture for smaller industrial applications. However, fabricating and handling graphene at industrial scale remains a barrier. This is where 2D can support breakthroughs.
