Why it Matters

As Denmark aims to reach 1 million EVs by 2030, their batteries, each capable of powering a home for up to 5 days, present a unique opportunity. Our solution transforms EVs into home battery systems. Households can avoid high energy costs by storing green energy when prices are low and using it when demand is at its highest.

Gridlinx is developing a bi-directional add-on for existing EV chargers. A user will be able to watch TV or turn on the lights using the energy stored in the EV, while at the same time reducing their energy costs. Rather than designing a new charger, we are developing a discharging add-on component that is compatible with the majority of existing chargers. This strategy not only makes use of an existing customer base, but it also provides an affordable alternative to entirely new systems.

The solution consists of:

  • Hardware add-on, which is plugged-in between the EV and the charger and facilitates the discharging of the EV battery
  • Embedded software and algorithm (AI), creating personalized charging schedules by analyzing real time energy prices, household energy consumption data and EV usage patterns
  • User-friendly mobile app, offering detailed savings reports, price data, and the flexibility to override schedules when necessary

Key technology risks Our add-on discharger is built in compliance with the ISO 15118-20 charging standard for bi-directional charging. In order to be able to communicate with the electric vehicle, this standard needs to be implemented by the car manufacturers in their EVs. While we already see progress towards this integration, these projects are still in early/pilot stage

Working on

Transforming electric vehicles (EVs) into home battery systems. By integrating EV batteries as a source of renewable power, Gridlinx address the challenges of energy grid imbalance and high electricity costs during peak demand.
